Catapult FailJan 8th, 2009 | By Alkillous | Category: comics, snewz, videos
Below is a video, which demonstrates a failure in the education system. There are a number of teens who don’t understand the correct workings of a catapult. A catapult uses tension to send projectiles a long distance. The best suited natural material for a catapult is wood, as there are countless fibers that increase in tension as the tree itself is bent. The rigid metal basketball pole in the video does not offer the tension required.
I have constructed an image to demonstrate the proper method of using a catapult to send your friend flying into a house. Note the use of a pulley release system.
The base of the catapult provides the weight necessary for stability, while the wooden beam does the work.
Their method is more like a lever. Unfortunately for the projectile, his weight at a greater distance from the fulcrum offsets the weight of his friends applying force on the opposite side.
If only these kids payed closer attention in Social Studies.
